Sumitomo's core aligning single fibre fusion splicers adopt the Profile Align System (PAS) image processing technique to precisely align the fibre cores prior to fusion. Splice loss estimation is also achieved by image processing using PAS sampling and, on core aligning splicers, High Definition Core Monitoring (HDCM).
