Quick Guide: How to Clean your instruments [Plus Tutorial]

To make sure you can enjoy your measurement device for as long as possible, it is important to take good care of it. To clean your instrument and do some minor maintenance work, you don't have to be a technician at all! In this quick guide, you will learn the main aspects about cleaning your device.

BASICS

First things first - it is very important to unplug the power cable from the outlet before you start cleaning your device. If your instrument is connected to a power supply, you might put yourself to the  risk of getting an electrical shock! We further advise you not to clean any internal components of your instrument.

CLEANING YOUR LCD SCREEN

For normal cleaning, gently rub the surface with a dry, soft (ideally microfibre) cloth. There might be some stains which are more difficult to remove. If that's the case, damp the cloth with a small amount ethanol or isopropyl alcohol.

If your device is provided with a standard LDC - wich in this case means no touchscreen - you can also use water to clean it. Just make sure to wring out the cloth properly! Never use water to clean a touch screen LCD!

MAINTAINING PORTS & CONNECTORS

Always make sure to keep the connectors free from stains and dust. Avoid touching the the contact surface on the connectors in order to keep them in a good shape for a long time. If your plugs are damaged or scratched, replace them with new ones to prevent damaging the ports, too.

For cleaning the connectors, use compressed air and do not use abrasives under any circumstances.

CLEANING OTHER PARTS

To remove stains on other parts (e.g. keyboard or frontpanel), gently wipe them with a soft cloth which can either be dry or slightly wetted. For your and your collegues safety, we also recommend using sanitizer to keep the device free of germs. Please use this only on insenstivie surfaces.
